Edit1 - Introduction
In an effort to troubleshoot telephone line issues, InphoniteVoice includes a feature which allows you to record the telephone call from the point of dialing through connection of the phone call. This recording is saved as an audio (i.e. WAV) file which can then be played in any multimedia player that will play .WAV files.
The primary benefit of this feature is that a recording of the initial telephone connection can give you information you could not otherwise obtain. It can tell you if there is a dialtone on the line, or if there is something interfering with proper connection of the call - things that can only be heard when listening to the call.
This article shows you how to turn on this feature and listen to the recordings it produces.
Edit2 - More Information
To begin, you would enable this feature
before your call(s) are made. Whether you plan to do a
test call, or start a call session using a rule, you want to turn this feature on before the session begins. Every call made while this is enabled — whether one call or two hundred — will then be recorded as separate WAV files and stored on the hard drive of the computer.
The steps for enabling the Record Initial Connection feature are as follows:
1. Launch the InphoniteVoice Admin from a shortcut on the Windows Desktop, or from
Start > All Programs > InphoniteVoice. Enter the password if prompted.
2. In the tree on the left, click the
Interface Service node.
3. In the top group, labelled 'General', find the setting called
Record Initial Connection, and set it to
True. The window will look something like this:
4. Now click the 'Servers' node on the tree, and restart the
Interface Service.
5. You may now exit the InphoniteVoice Admin.
To then listen to the recording(s) made, you would open 'My Computer', and navigate to
C:\Program Files\InphoniteVoice\Recordings. (This is the default path. That path can be changed by modifying the
Record Initial Connection Path setting in the 'Paths' section of the Interface Service node in the InphoniteVoice Admin.) In this folder, simply locate the file you wish to hear and double click to play it.
As the purpose of recording the initial connection is diagnostic in nature, it is not recommended that the feature be left on for long periods of time as this can create an enormous number of files and consume hard drive space. Our recommendation is that you turn on the feature, perform your calls, and turn it off.
To turn off the initial recording feature, simply set the Record Initial Connection setting in the InphoniteVoice Admin back to
False.
